Footage, filenames, search text, notes, tags and the names you give people stay on your Mac. Indexing and search run there.

The app

Vicuda sends three kinds of report to vicuda.com.

When it first opens

A random install ID, the app version and the macOS version.

Usage statistics, once a day

Sent after the notice in the app has been shown, while Share Usage Statistics is on:

  • how many searches, selects, exports, rejected shots and notes there were each day
  • how quickly searches return, and how long it took to find a shot after searching
  • how many hours of footage were indexed each day
  • of the selects Make Stacks made each day, how many were exported untouched, trimmed, swapped, moved, removed or made your own
  • how many clips are indexed, how long they run and their total size on disk
  • how many projects, stacks and selects there are
  • the install ID, the app version and the macOS version

Turning off usage statistics sends the install ID and app version once, and then nothing more until it is turned back on.

Crash reports

While Send Crash Reports is on: the crash and hang reports macOS gives Vicuda, with every file path removed, the names of the last 30 commands used before the crash, and the number of clips in the studio.

Seeing and changing it

Both switches are in the Vicuda menu. Show What’s Sent displays the next usage report exactly as it will be sent. The install ID is random and is not linked to your name or email address.

This website

vicuda.com counts page views and visits without cookies. Each one records the page, the site you came from (its address without the query string), the campaign tag on the link if it had one, your country, whether you are on a phone, how far down the page you scrolled, which links you clicked and how much of a recording you watched. Nothing records your IP address or browser. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted.

The waitlist stores your email address, the kind of work you do, whether you offered a drive of footage for testing, the page you signed up from and your country. It is used to write to you about Vicuda.

Where it is kept

Reports and the waitlist are stored on Cloudflare, which hosts vicuda.com. They are not sold or shared. To have an install’s reports or your waitlist entry deleted, write to hello@vicuda.com with the install ID from Show What’s Sent, or the address you signed up with.
