Writing in

In the app, Help › Contact Support… starts a message with the Vicuda version, the build, the macOS version and the chip already filled in. Say what you did, what you expected and what happened instead.

Vicuda is made by one person, who reads every message. Replies come on working days, in the order messages arrive.

Send Diagnostics

Help › Send Diagnostics… opens a window showing the report exactly as it will be sent. Nothing goes until you press Send. Save… writes the same report to a text file instead, to attach to an email yourself.

Once a report is sent, the window shows a reference such as VD-7KQ2-M9XP. Put it in your email so the report can be found.

What a report includes

  • the Vicuda version and build, the macOS version, the Mac model, chip, memory and free disk space
  • the install ID and the studio file’s format version
  • how many clips, projects, stacks and selects there are, and how long and how large the footage is
  • how many clips are waiting, indexing, indexed or failed at each stage
  • why clips failed, as the sentence the app shows with the file’s name removed, and any error codes
  • how long each command took over the last 30 days, and how fast recent clips indexed
  • how many indexed clips can be reviewed with the drive unplugged
  • which settings are on: faces, label packs, speech language, usage statistics and crash reports, Make Stacks after indexing
  • the last 200 lines Vicuda wrote to its log since it opened, redacted as below
  • the message you type in the window, if you type one

What it leaves out

Footage, frames, sound, transcripts, file paths, filenames, folder names, search text, notes, tags, and the names of people, projects, stacks and saved searches. Log lines have every path, filename and quoted text replaced, and every name the studio holds replaced with <text>.

Where it goes

A sent report is stored on Cloudflare, which hosts vicuda.com, and deleted after 90 days. A copy without the log is emailed to help@vicuda.com. Reports are read to answer you and are not shared. Sending one does not change the usage statistics or crash report settings. See Privacy for everything else the app sends.
